You can catch them on anything at night that you catch them on during the day. Figuring out what that is on any given night is the same as during the day too. If you didn't catch them on a square-bill crankbait it's not because they couldn't find it. Bass don't have a problem locating any type of prey or lure at night. It's what they were made to do.

Great bait at night. I've caught hundreds of fish off a 2.5 at night over the years.

I use all black and silent at night. Good for a few.

The basic point of throwing a dark color after dark is not so the fish will see the color, it's so it creates a stronger silhouette in the water. There's not much color in the water at night so the concept is, if something creates a more solid silhouette, the fish can potentially see it a little better. I dunno if any of that's true or if it makes a difference - but - I've always thrown dark colors at night and had decent success.

Yep, I've caught them pretty darn good on Austin on a squarebill over the years. My PB last year (12.5) came next to a dock on a Jackall Aska at about midnight.

Heck, for years I've given them the "Craylon touch" with black spray paint. Heavier line & trebles are must because you need to boat flip the fish. Netting or lipping is near impossible in the dark. A slow steady retrieve is good trying to make contact with the cover. Xcite rattling XB-1 is my bait of choice. 2x Gamaktsu round bend trebles, 16-20lbs sunline.

Sounds like it's worth a try. I think I'm going to use the same colors that work daytime. Probably will do better with a big single blade spinnerbait and a large plastic worm but we will see.

Their eyes are suppose to be similar to ours. at night with little moonlight, they are suppose to see dark shapes easier. On nights with a full moon, they can see more color. I know on several occasions at night I have had a pole hanging over the edge of my boat with a lure dangling and even though it was pitch black, they wrte able to see the lure and come out of the water and tried to grab it. I finally learned my lesson and keep them in the boat before I lose a rod. I had no idea that their eyesight was yhat good in the dark
