Having a weird issue where some days my boat just won't get on pad. Then the next time I'm out it does just fine. It is a 20 foot bass cat with 225 merc pro xs optimax. Has anyone had this problem?? It will run fine once on pad, even after it has struggled to get on pad. Any ideas what could be happening?? Thanks

What Year? Coils are one the main issues on this motor.

Sounds like a prop issue. If its a prop you have had for a while it could still be the problem. Mine did the same thing but I had an extra 350 pound buddy in the boat. Took one of the vent plugs out and it ran fine for the trip.

try removing 1 or 2 or the vent plugs, like ringer said.

sounds like the prop just needs to spin up faster.

Don't remove the vent plugs before you see what the motor will "stall" up to. You want it to go to about 3200 rpms when you take off. If it is doing that the vents are not your problem. But with that said if the motor is low on power that may help till you figure out what else is going on.

How can I say this. Make sure nothing is blocking water from getting to the prop. I have seen transducers come loose and blocks the way of the water getting to the prop.

Thanks,

"intermittent" hole shot problem is almost never a propeller.

UNLESS: the intermittent issue is from a load variance. i.e. water in livewells. adding more
people, etc.

what prop are you running?

Thanks guys. Just switched from a 26 pitch tempest to a 25. Boat is jumping on pad good for now but will see how it does next time I have a partner and full load in the boat.

mine did the same thing when i had to people it would pop right up and at 3-4 person it would not get enough revs to get on plain steeve got me straighten out with a lower pitch prop i could have 6 people in the boat and it would still get on a plain

BassCats are notorious for that. Mine does the same thing.
I don't put over half tanks of fuel in my boat anymore and that seems to help.
I'm with Steve on the weight distribution being your problem.
