I have a tranny fluid leak on my 2004 Nissan Titan, had all the hoses and clamps replaced and got it back from my mechanic after 2 weeks, drove it for 20 miles then 30 miles pulling my boat and got home and it smelled like burnt trans fluid and it wasn't left over residue, then sprang a small leak overnight. Took it back to my mechanic and je said the transmission cooler is now leaking then wanted $900 to replace it. My question is, how many transmission coolers are there and where are they located? I know one is on the left side on the front of the radiator but is there more? thanks.

I don't know for sure a bout Nissan's, but most vehicles have one that is inside the radiator, you cant replace that one. Most towing packages come with an external one mounted outside the radiator(what you can see in front probably).
You can get an aftermarket one and replace it for way less than 900 in parts. Not sure how mechanically inclined you are or if you even care to do it.
Where is the fluid coming from? It shouldn't be hard to find out.

Theres actually no fluid present anymore on the driveway, but I can wipe my passenger side front tire clean and drive 10 miles, and it will be covered in fluid and will smell like burnt trans fluid.

I certainly wouldnt be driving it to far anymore without adding fluid unless you want it to be a several thousand dollar trans replacement. Like what was said earlier. It could either be a part of the radiator or an external one outside of the radiator. Can't imagine it would be too difficult to replace but I dont know Nissan's that well.

You can buy a new cooler for well under 100 bucks.
You should be able to see where yours is and see if its replaceable. There should be two hoses running from the transmission to the radiator area. If its not built in you can take the old one out. Try and find one that fits in the same area. If you can't do that just find a place in front of the radiator and strap it on.
Hooking up the new one should be easy.
Edit: From Titantalk I found that the Titan tranny cooler is built into the radiator. One suggested fix is to replace it with the Hayden 1405. Thats just one of a number of coolers that will work but one that was on the Titan forum as having more capability than stock.

Coming from a ex-Titan owner, be aware that the clamps that are used to clamp all the transmission and coolant lines are known failure points. I had to spend some time removing them and replacing them with standard screw driven type clamps and seal up a few leaks. Very cheap fix.

Thank you guys a bunch for the response! Haven't gotten around to checking it out yet, but hopefully I can get away with blocking off the internal cooler in the radiator and mounting a new one somewhere around that area. Thanks again!
