The Lure weights on a rod. Are they just a recommendation or should they be followed exactly? Would a lure weight of 2oz. be ok to throw on a 1 1/2 rated rod? I got a BPS Crankin Stick that shows up to 1 1/2 oz lure because the guy there said it would be ok. Should I take it back and get a higher rated Rod or keep this one? Thanks

You certainly risk breaking the tip if you use a weight too heavy for the rod. How heavy is really too heavy probably varies by rod. Doesn't BPS have a 12 month warranty on their rods?
If you're just using it for punching or flipping it might be one thing, but if you're really loading the rod up it might shorten the life of the rod.
