I changed thermostats in my 1996 Mercury 150. When I ordered them they came in 120 and 143 degree. I bought the 143, but I was wondering about this. why do they come in 2 different temp ranges?

143 is "normal" for most production V6's..(other than dfi's).. don't have a clue as ta why you would use a 120 on your type motor....Tha only V6 that I've seen that didn't have 143's is a 15" ProMax....it comes with 123's for whatever reason?
fixed it...don't do Opti's

Optimax 3.0 liter V6's prior to 2005 came with 120* thermostats mercury now recommends updating these engines to 130* stats. But for your particular engine the 143 is what belongs in it.
