Can you overfill a lower unit? I feel like I had to add more fluid than the fluid capacity chart showed. Thanks in advance...

Just fill until it starts dribbling out the top hole no more no less.

Make sure you have the lower unit level and like FMJ says just fill until you get a trickle of grease out the top hole. I imagine you could overfill and possibly blow out the seals but it is so simple to do it right the first time.

there is "one".. Merc Sporty that's usually found on tha Hi Perf division X, XS, Pro XS motors....if you are tha proud owner of one of these ya fill it like normal till it drips from tha top hole then drain 'bout 1 1/12 oz.

To answer your question yes you can over fill a lower. The lower needs a small void area for heat expansion. Early 3L Mercs have been known to only put 32oz in the lower or the oil can push the top seal out. I have found some motors that you can not let all down for correct fill check and I will refer to motor spec`s for lower units capacity.
