Are the lower units on yamahas suppose to be vented or completely sealed?

Ok, when I took my lower unit fill plug out today it sounded like there was either pressure or vacuum inside.

They will build up a little pressure in the heat. I haev had them shoot lube all over the place and me while removing the plug.
