The stereo on my boat has quit working. It started off turning its self off if i had a hard landing after going over a wave/wake. Then it slowly got worse to where it would do it even in small chop. finally it cut out and never turned back on. I rewired it and checked fuses and nothing. then i pulled off the faceplate and pushed it back on and magically it worked again. Then a few days later i took the boat out and it will not even turn on. I have good power all the way to the plug going into the radio and power all the way back at the ground so I know it is not an issue with the wiring.

I am thinking that something inside the radio broke or the face plate is just broken. unfortunately none of the local radio places have one i can plug the faceplate in to check that. So as of now I have no radio and I am out of ideas short of just replacing it. Any other ideas?

Since you are mounted on a boat, you need to check the negative connection as well. If you have a solid positive and a solid negative contact, then it would have to be in the radio.

Might be the contacts where the faceplate mate up to the unit are corroded enough that it's not making contact on one or two pins. You might try using a pencil eraser to clean up the contacts on both the unit and faceplate. Beyond that, the pounding from being on a boat might have taken its toll.

I run a round Jensen on my boat in the old speedometer hole. Not a high end unit for certain, but I love it so far.

I think the radio is just shot from the beating lik you mentioned. i pulled it completely apart this morning and everything looks to be in place with no corrosion, even inside the faceplate. Bummer
