Try the surf if not too rough.

TimL, I only saw 1 wade fish spot listed on your link: http://www.stxmaps.com/go/redfish-bay-fishing.html

It also doesn't provide information as to what type structure is subsurface to hold bait and game fish.

Wade fishing has been excellent this year with the coastal bend finally getting some decent rain to nourish our estuaries.

There are many wade fishing spots listed, but it is true that most require a kayak or boat to reach. However, there is Stedman Island flats next to the bait shop at Morris & Cummins cut, and there is Brown & Root flats, that I just waded a few weeks ago. Both can be accessed by parking just off the main road. There are a number of places to park along the causeway between Aransas Pass and the ferry landing that you can wade and have success fishing for trout, reds and flounder.

If you are worried about the flesh eating bacteria, you probably do not want to go wading with an open sore or if you have a compromised immune system. Even then, the odds are against getting the infection. You have probably as much chance of getting struck by lightning. Think of all the people who go swimming in the gulf and never have a problem. I would be more worried about sting rays right now, so if you do wade, shuffle your feet as much as possible along the bottom, and be prepared to struggle in some ankle or higher deep mud in some areas of the flats.
