Spent several hours during the heat of the day fly fishing a pond for carp. The pond was high due to the recent rain and a new carp and gar population had invaded through a pump that was releasing water from a neighboring flooded pond that was actually getting poured into by the raging Denton Creek from Grapevine Lake. I find it interesting that this pond never had gar in it before and now due to the flooding will have a large population of gar forever. The carp were cruising along the newly flooded grass, and frequently pausing to root around a bit for some food. I only caught one carp today, however I missed four other carp because once hooked, they would bend the cheap hooks and get off. Although frustrating, I still would call it a successful day, and I even learned some better ways to approach these spooky fish from different angles. Sorry, I couldn't rotate the pictures!
