Guys will be fishing for a week and would like try and use some bass lures to catch reds and trout what do you guys recommend. I will be fishing from a boat most of the time in the bays. We caught them last year on shrimp but a week of buying shrimp can get expensive.

thanks

Personally my go to other than live shrimp is a soft plastic shrimp or any other colorful soft plastic on a jig head for reds.I like to experiment with different things when I'm on the coast I'll throw whatever I think they may bite ! Good luck hope this helps !

Any zara spook type topwater.
Weedless spoon.
plastic twitch baits, rigged on a 1/8 or 1/16 oz head.
gold rogues
rattle traps on shell reefs.
5" swim baits.

Fish visable color spectrum is same from trout to reds to bass. Depending on water depth your fishing, clarity and enviroment conditions should dictate what you use. For example. In shallow water with decent clarity fishing for reds and trout I would use a red jerk or swim bait rigged with the appropriate sized jig head. Or maybe in the same day same spot the only want bone white gulp shrimp. I do notice reds feed by smell as much as eye sight so put some attractant on there some gulp juice, shrimp gels, or my personal favorite is Garlic tournament strength they sell at academy in a black spray can. The last red I caught in grass flats was with a purple and chart tail (LSU) jerk bait/swim on a 1/4 jig head similar to this http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=AwrTcXfjToRV9ugATNeInIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTIza2pwN2NwBHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDaW1nBG9pZANjZWMxYjlhMjdjZmY1MmExY2IzNDAyYWU2ZDdmZmFmZgRncG9zAzYyBGl0A2Jpbmc-?.origin=&back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dtequila%2Bgold%2Blsu%2Bfish%2Blures%26fr%3Dcrmas%26fr2%3Dpiv-web%26ri%3D9%26nost%3D1%26tab%3Dorganic%26ri%3D62&w=385&h=256&imgurl=static.wix.com%2Fmedia%2F0dcf0e_dd1484535eb91e4990192dab8becd1c0.jpg_256&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nortonlures.net%2F%23%21sand-shad-jr%2Fc82z&size=+5.4KB&name=Sand+Shad+Jr.+-+7+Pack&p=tequila+gold+lsu+fish+lures&oid=cec1b9a27cff52a1cb3402ae6d7ffaff&fr2=piv-web&fr=crmas&tt=Sand+Shad+Jr.+-+7+Pack&b=61&ni=21&no=62&ts=&tab=organic&sigr=11env7npj&sigb=13tlpd9e1&sigi=1248g90ni&sigt=10mtlcrf1&sign=10mtlcrf1&.crumb=MyXPM4qEKyk&fr=crmas&fr2=piv-web

When the bite is on it does not seem like trout are real picky. Recently I have caught nice sized trout in the surf from 18 to 22 inches on a Rapala X-Rap silver sides with black back, as these do a good job of imitating a finger mullet. The guy fishing next to me was catching them on a paddle tail soft plastics. Rapala Skitter Walks and Heddon Zara Spooks using the walking the dog technique will often slay the big trout and reds. My go to lure is a Johnson Sprite silver or gold spoon, or if weeds or grass is an issue, the Johnson Silver minnow weedless. Soft plastic shrimp tails like Berkley Gulps fished on jig heads or under a popping cork work well. Just this morning my buddy and I caught three big trout, all 20 plus inches, fishing on the CC Bay jetty near downtown. I caught one on a Johnson Sprite silver spoon, and he caught the other two on shrimp tail jigs, clear with copper sparkles and pink tail. It is nice that these spoons and soft plastics are not expensive compared to the high dollar plugs yet produce as good or better.

Guys, thanks so much for the help. I can't wait to get down there and watch my 7 yr old catch some trout and reds, he had such a blast last year but all we used were shrimp. I'll keep him on the shrimp for more bites but I'll sure try my bass stuff.
thanks again.

For the most part they aren't real picky. My next door neighbor in seadrift only uses norton bull minnow in plum/chartreuse. And catches a lot of trout. I just carry hogie super minnow in pumpkin/chartreuse and red/white and sand eel in Baffin magic and tequila. It's way more about getting on them than figuring out what they'll hit.
