Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Brian and Jill Peterson, their son, Will, age 9, daughter, Greta, age 7, and son, Eddie, 18 months old along with Brian’s brother chartered the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Winds were out of the east at 9 mph and seas running 2-4 ft., temperatures in the high 80’s.

The two young anglers aboard the boat were filled with enthusiasm and ready to catch some fish, so were their parents and uncle. Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, located 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling with one plainer down with a purple and brown sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip. For surface baits we had two Ballyhoos, two Bonito strips and a Ballyhoo dredge teaser.

As we trolled around, the young Will kept calling the fish, “Here fishy fishy” and his sister, Greta, joined him. We trolled out to 450 ft. of water where a couple of birds were working the area, hoping there would be some Mahi Mahi’s. All of a sudden one of the surface rods was hooked up on a fish, and Will, our anger, reeled in his first fish, while jumping up and down yelling with joy. From there we kept trolling around catching some more Bonitos with Will and Greta taking turns. For these young anglers, catching these Bonitos was just as thrilling for them as if they were Sailfish. All of a sudden our plainer rod bent over and line exited the Penn International reel at a fast rate, while the rod tip bounced up and down, a good indication it was a Wahoo. Brian assisted Will and Greta in reeling in the Wahoo, while our mate Dave, gaffed the nice Wahoo and put it in the fishbox. From there we kept trolling catching four more Tunas.

It was time to head back. All the anglers retired into the a/c salon for a relaxing ride back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
