Hit it after the full moon and between monsoons. Bite slowed considerably, but quality still there. Got these for a photo op then released them. Notice the one on the top right. I Swear it is a cross between a longear and a greenie, or a greenie and something. Body of longear, color of a greenie, but a "short ear".

All caught on red/chartreuse crappie jig on a 1/32nd. oz UNPAINTED jig head. No bobber, just steady cast and retrieve. First round of spawn seems to be over. Next round, hopefully, this coming full moon.

Rudy

Nice big Greens Rudy! Good job. cheers

Side Note: The top right fish looks like to me a cross between a Green and a Bluegill which is called a Georgia Giant! Just my opinion. 2cents

This fish was confirmed by the Texas Parks&Wildlife as a Green/Hybrid and is the current Green/Hybrid Sunfish Record for Martinez Creek. It is a cross between a Bluegill and Green Sunfish.(Georgia Giant). I caught a HUGE ONE last year fishing a private pond!

I was told by other Sunfish Anglers that over the last several years a lot of inner breeding has taken place within the Sunfish family especially with the Greens and Bluegill. Redear/Bluegill,and Redbreast/Longear have been inner breeding as well. hmmm

Looks a lot like the one I caught. That is probably what it was. Need to get out there as soon as time permits, catch another one and get confirmation, LOL! Thanks

Excellent post Rudy! I'm hoping to take a trip to Lake Athens again this weekend - on Sunday. I am still dreaming about the bluegills swimming in that lake after last weekend. Haha!
