Been wanting to go fish the bottom of a dam but I'm not sure if there's any lakes releasing water? Any websites that tell lake conditions and if any flood gates are open? I had some really good luck fishing at the bottom of a dam in Oklahoma last weekend and I'm hoping maybe I can find some action like that around DFW. My friends have been wanting to go to granbury, or benbrook but I don't know if they're releasing any water. This was just one of the days, I caught 30+ but only kept a few of them

I wouldn't buy into any of the conspiracy theory to drain the lakes. It hasn't rained enough for years. All the lakes in that chain were low and some in the upper brazos still are. At Pk they will try to hold the lake at or around 999.0 without flooding downstream too much. This is a graph for the last 2 months Here's the last few days, you can see they tried to release extra I assume because of the forecast of tropical storm Bill.

You're talking like I work there..... Pk won't hold a whole lot extra like say grapevine, why I don't know, but they try to stay at 999. Here's why from what they say: "Uncontrolled Spillway. The fourth method to release water from the dam is to use the uncontrolled spillway. The uncontrolled spillway is the large flat area on the south side of the dam cut into rock at elevation 1000-ft. It is only used during floods larger than can be released by the nine spillway gates. In the history of Morris Sheppard, such a flood has not occurred, but the facilities are there if needed. For the uncontrolled spillway to be used, all the spillway gates would be open, and the floodwater would continue rising above elevation 1000-ft, at which time the lake would begin discharging over the uncontrolled spillway." Talk about a flood downstream....

Whatever comes into PK or Granbury at this point has to be let out since they have no flood pool. Whitney has a large flood pool and can hold a lot of excess water and release it slower over a longer period of time. It's no conspiracy to drain Granbury.

I can't imagine anyone foolish enough to buy into that nonsense.
