When idling through the trees sometimes I will Bump a tree and my motor will turn off, just like the rest will. But the thing is it will not start up for about 15 min. When trying to turn it over it sounds like the kill switch is pulled. I will use my trolling motor over to the bank and fish for about 15min and I will try it and it will start right back up and off I go.

Is your cranking battery really hot, charged?

it should be. it has no problem starting when unloading or any other time. Sometimes when starting my front electronics will reboot but the one on my console will not.

Are you making sure to put the shifter in neutral before starting?

It shouldn't start in gear.

Couple of wild shots in the dark.

You might consider running the motor battery connections from the main battery terminals with connectors like this:

You may want to check your flywheel key to see if it is dented.

This one is a head scratcher! Makes no sense.

Agreed. What does it do if you just kill it and restart?

another shot in the dark: maybe your nuetral safety switch is sticking. try turning off the key while idling on the water in gear. put your selector handle in nuetral, then try to start it again. if it dont start its probably the switch or the rigging of the shift cable. Also get on thr Bass Boat Central Forum and post under Yamaha outboards section. Yamahas are awesome motors but when they break sometimes its hard to figure them out.

If my memory serves me correct. I believe I have killed it in gear and it took a few minutes for it to restart. I will give your suggestion a go texskeeter.

Mine has done the same thing... I've found if I prime the bulb it will fire right back up. It's almost as if the abrupt stop on the motor drains the fuel, which makes no sense, but priming works. Try it.
