Lake is now apprx. 1 foot low. Fishing reports are POOR for both crappie and bass. Marina owner, Vance Proctor is selling minnows and he reports fishermen are using both minnows and jigs and have not been able to locate the crappie with all of the fresh vegetation scattering fish in his books. He says a couple of bass clubs are finding the going tuff also, with so much new vegetation. Vance said he sold lots of trotline bait and bait for channels and blue cats and the bite has vanished both on trotline and rod/reel.

If you are thinking about a trip anytime soon, it may be tuff sledding to find a concentration of crappie. I am thinking the area around the dam and spillway might be ones best bet simply because it held enough deep water for the fish to survive in, when the lake was so low and avoided most of the golden algae fish kill.

I know everyone wants to hear a grand report, but sometimes the truth is better to hear than a fish story . Good thing is someone has to find them at some point. As I understand it from TP&W, they do not plan to stock the lake, thinking the native fish population will take care of it with successful spawns?????

Good Fishing

Im just glad to see the lake full of water. I figured the fishing would be take some time to pick up on these lakes that took such a hit. Hopefully it turns around in a few months

WTex just got to the lake Ron. Sent a pic as he was driving over bridge. Says he couldn't get his boat under, even if he was laying down.

Roger, it looks great and has been a long time in coming. Abilene paper today shows it to be 0.8 feet below spillway, so it is as close as it has been in multiple years. I sure hope the fish can get off a great spawn next year. Oh wait, I forgot about a person or person's that believe in multiple spawns. Sure appears to be some excellent habitat for the fish and their fry to increase the numbers.

You better get busy tying some of those Lake Stamford special jigs for your future trips.

TP&W stocked the Lake with Largemouth Bass in the last multiple days. They back up the vat full of fish, netted out X amount into 55 gallons drums and then set out to different areas of the lake to stock the bass in multiple locations.
