I just found out my brother took leave from the Army for two weeks starting tomorrow. Me and my fishing buddy want to take him to an awesome area to yak fish. We talked about the coast but I was thinking a river maybe. I know local rivers are more suited for white water rafting. Does anyone have any suggestions of a good area that does not look like a mud hole or a raging river? We were thinking about 6ish hours from Dallas is our limit. We appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Maybe give it some time and let the waters clear up a little. Then make your decision.

Given the forecast and the flooding, I wouldn't try the rivers. I would hit the coast. Fish the bays (maybe get a guide), Fish the surf, drink beer.

I love going to the Oauchita River near Mount Ida, AR. I stay at Two Spirits LTD. Frank runs it and he'll treat you right and will even cook meals for you if you're interested. It's 5 hours away from Dallas, has scenic views, clear water, and plenty of smallmouth. It's got a nice flow to keep you floating with mostly Class I and some Class II rapids that are all easily manageable. Check the USGS water level site ( http://waterdata.usgs.gov/) before you go cause if it storms it can rise rapidly but it lowers and cleans up quickly too.

I know all the rivers in North Texas and Okla are flooded. We were talking before about Arkansas or the Tx coast. I have no idea how bad water is in Arkansas so I'll call Frank and ask if its worth the trip. I thought the coast would handle this weather better but we are not very salty. Freshwater on the other hand we are great at. Frank may help me make this decision. LoL
Thank yall for the input.

Broken Bow was good in May, not sure about now. The river there is great for trout. Tomechi sp? cabins are nice.
