So, how do you hold the jig to keep from getting hooked in the hand? By the head? By the bottom of the hook? Close up pic would be nice.

I use a 1/16 round ball head jig and pinch the jig head, with the hook pointed AWAY from my hand. I have never had any trouble with getting "hooked".

First time I tried to shoot a dock, I sent my whole rid in the lake. Jig, rod and reel. Never been able to figure the art of shooting a jig out.

I hold the bent part of the hook, pull her back and let it fly, I found it is easier with a spincast reel than the other one's. That way you only have to hold the button down, and you don't have to worry about backlash, get you two concrete blocks and a board and lawn chair, set the board on the blocks, and set in the lawn chair and shoot away to get the hang of it, call it backyard dock shooting. OMG

Don't pay any attention to that jig/color. They don't catch any fish... grin

My wal-marts only had black and chartreuse or whites. No other colors. Going to try the black / chart this weekend.

Understood, but, no time to get them here before I leave tomorrow.

If you're gonna go to Walmart, try Wally's Shad Pole

The original and IMHO still the best for skipping the jig under the dock is the Panfish Assassin. ANY jig will catch a crapie under a dock, but not any jig will skip.
