Need some help on my crankbait fishing. Do yall always hit bottom? I feel like I go from 2ft to 30ft so much it's hard to keep up even with 3 rods. Second, anybody know any good cranking lakes around granbury area that will be a good confidence booster? Last, what about lakes with lots of grass?

0-8 feet can depend on conditions. You do not always have to be banging of stuff. If an area looks good fish the outside edges, then go with a deeper CB, then move in shallow with CB that will tick the bottom.

I try to tune my CBs so that when I pause them and then restart them, they HUNT when restarted. Not hard to do, once you understand it, but getting them there w/o knowing what you are doing is almost impossible. When your CBs hunt by themselves or with prompting, you do not have to hit any cover/structure/bottom. You catch more fish w/o hitting bottom. MOST anglers have to be banging off stuff to catch fish, but not me, I catch a ton of fish in open water, just the way I set up my CBs. Hope this helps a little bit. Throw a CB on the outside of the grass line and if it is deep enough, throw a bait over the grass. A baby 1 minues or something like that makes a mean CB to throw over or around grass. Hope this helps.

Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

Generally speaking. Squarebills....bang stuff. Deep divers....tick bottom. Traps...tick moss or rip the edges. That being said, the retrieve makes a huge difference in more or less open water. Reel the lure down ..... pause and sweep your rod....sometimes just a little, other times a lot. The sudden sweeping action causes the lure to dart in a random direction (kinda like Thad Rains hunting lures). At other times a twitch, twitch, pause....then repeat...works well. Some folks subscribe to the "don't think, just chunk 'n crank" method of CB fishing, but there's a lot more to it than that. Not near Granbury, but Canton City is a good CB lake....mostly open water with moss edges, depth changes and just a little brush. Its been good to me in the past. texas
