Live shad floating on the river. live/dead shad from bank weighted. Slabs will only get hung up in the rocks. You can use jigs but right now that is not the best bait. Perch do work well...

Pencil poppers, buck tails in the 3/4, 2 oz range, slabs work just have to keep the bait moving, big jerk baits are another good bait.. Live bait is a last resort especially if I'm fishing catch and release to many fish hooked deep on live baits..
