Protection from the sun's rays, I've noticed a substancial increase in the number of anglers wearing buff's, gloves, long sleeve SPF shirts, sun screen, and big hat's.
I've also noticed it trending more with the younger anglers, and the older like me.
The middle aged don't seem to wear it as much, IMO..
Last week and the weekend it looked like Fork had been invaded by hords of Ninjas..
You can't tell who's fishing next to you...LOL
It's a good thing for sure, wish I had better sense and protected myself more when I was younger..
Shoot back in the 70's-90's we looked like Trazan out there, nothing on but shorts and a ball cap..
I know some of you older anglers remember doing that..

I think it's smart for younger people to preserve their skin health for when they are older , I know my face has plenty of sun damage from 25 years ago

I like it more than putting on lotion. The buff takes some time getting used to but when its hot a quick soaking of cold water goes a long way

Wish I had been smarter when it comes to sun protection when I was younger. I've had to see the derm three times in two years to get spots frozen off my face and ears. Not a pleasant experience.

The biggest fear I have is my ears, seen a guy with the tops cut off from skin cancer.
Sent a cold chill up my spine, he was big golfer guy.. Scary.

I myself am guilty as charged. Roofed houses and did Landscaping in the 80's and fished w/o a shirt and/or didn't bother with sunscreen over the years. I now have a spot on my back that hasn't gone away over the past year and a half. It didn't occur to me that this was what it was. I'll find out this week for sure and whether I have more serious problem. This link has some good info.

Know the ABCDE's of Melanoma

These days I'm covered head to toe with a straw hat and sun screen.

Annual appointment to th Dermatologist for me. I got tired of them freezing a bunch of spots each year. Plus some of the new stuff actually feels cooler.

I think the gear will only get better! Finally!

Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I've turned believer, like many when younger i ran around all summer with no shirt most the time in board shorts and flip flops.

Fishing in long sleeves and a big hat is definitely cooler than short sleeves.

I'll wear a buff too, i haven't gotten the gloves yet and might not ever but i can see that helping too.

I'm alot better about sunscreen now than i used to be but still forget from time to time, or put it on way to late in the day.

I grew up fishing in basketball shorts and usually nothing else. Now I cover up from head to toe like a Muslim woman. Skin cancer is an ugly beast. I don't ever want a doctor having to cut holes out of me. . .

I am 33 and have already had 16 spots removed because I was hard headed. I am now one of those guys who completely covers up. Its not worth it. I know being tan is a big deal to some but anyone and everyone can get skin cancer. Those who think they can't do. My dad is very dark complectex and always tanned easily and had had a melanoma removed.

After 17 years in landscaping, cand a lifetime (38 years) of fishing, I finally graduated from having spots burned off to having a squamous cell carcinoma lump cut off of my temple earlier this year. Just found another lump inside the hairline on the other side of my head last week. Going in Thursday to have it cut out. I have been wearing wide brimmed hats, buffs, sunscreen, and long sleeved shirts for 2 years now. Not soon enough, evidently.

You only get one set of skin. Just not worth risking your health with all the great SPF clothing options available. And it keeps you cooler throughout the day anyways!
