Went to Gilmer on Sunday to try it out again. Spent the day and ended up with 30 fish or so between my nephew and I. Had 5 or 6 swimmers and the rest were in the 2.5 -4.5 range. Never had a giant fish but it was fun. After the topwater bite tapered off, we caught most of our fish fishing jn the 4-5 foot range throwing soft plastics.
Yes, it's a brag but thought I'd share what we figured out so maybe someone else could squeeze a day in before the monsoon rains hit again.

Btw, don't go with wimpy gear. These fish are mean and have plenty of stuff to wrap you up in.

Wow, we fished Friday and we had one fish all day. Everyone we talked to struggled too. Amazing what a few days will do.

I had read that on Saturday but we decided to try it again anyway. I wasn't expecting anything like it turned out. We just kept pecking away and finally got them dialed in.

Nah. Everyone and their momma knows about Gilmer. Thats the problem with people these days. Everyone is hush hush and is too afraid someone is going to ruin "their" spot.

The internet has and will devastate good smaller lakes, take a trip to Mill Creek or Bonham and get back to me...

Considering deputy t and I live and fish the same small lakes around here, we've seen what you are talking about.
But I've had some good info shared here when I asked so I'm just returning the favor. Sorry if it hurts feelings.

A friend of mine always tells me..."Let's go [here]. When I ask why, he says "Nobody is talking about it, so the bite must be good".

I share as much information I can if someone asks. I have had an unknown amount of people on here share things with me when I needed help, so in return, I will do the same for others. I have also met some really nice people on here, and in person, by simply striking up a conversation about techniques, baits, presentations, and so on. You would be surprised what kind of people you can meet and their wealth of knowledge they are willing to share if you can get away from the tight lip.

I've heard of Gilmer, driven by it a few times, but never fished it.

I love to fish, and catching 30 2-4 lbers sure sounds dam fun!

I also spend lots of money to try and catch fish.

I ate humble pie at Fork last weekend.

I think I just might go give ole Gilmer a try this weekend.

Thanks! hammer
