PM Jerry Hamon, his brother (fishinpreacher) and he keep a place at rollover. I know fishinpreacher is a fan of spinnerbaits. When I fish Christmas Bay area I tend to err on the darker side of softplastic colors and hardbaits with some gold. I know the waters can clear up, I've never fished there when its happened.

Keep an eye on the tides. You can get stuck back in some of those marshes at low tide even in a kayak! You will be fishing in chocolate milk like Josh said but the fish are there. Any of the marshes along the ICW can produce. Just pick one. Be very aware of the big barges being pushed by. The barges that are loaded down will suck water out of the marsh on their approach and send a tidal wave behind them. Some of the mud in those marshes can be waste deep so be careful where you try to get out.....

1. pick a marsh
2. braid with fluro leaders, I even use fluro leaders on top water baits there due to all of the shell
3. you can get it done with gulp under a popping cork and 3" paddle tails
4. don't underestimate just how far back in the marsh those reds will go and how shallow they will get

Balloon tied to the top of a 6ft. single strand wire leader and a 10/0-15/0 circle hook. Tons of fun.

You'll have to ask my brother. He's the salt expert in our family.

Top salt baits(colors) for me,

DOA shrimp (bone/chart - new penny - electric chicken - rootbeer gold/chart)
Mirrodine by mirrolure (electric chicken - CFPR)
Paul Brown Devil by mirrolure (texas chicken - bone - pearl chartruese back)
DOA CAL shad tail (morning glory - electric chicken - rootbeer gold/chart)
Johnson Silver minnow spoon gold 1/8 oz TIP add a ball bearing swivel to the front of it
Heddon Zara Spook Jr (bone - foxy mama)
Mirrominnow by mirrolure (same colors as the mirrodine just a longer profile suspending twitch bait when the mullet are around)
Mirromullet by mirrolure (repeat colors of mirrodine flashier topwater when the spook is not working)
Rockport Rattler jig head with sand eel imitation (I can't remember manufacturer/color for the sand eels I get them when I go to the in laws in southern Louisiana)

Some of these I copied from Josh some are my own doing, I use popping corks for the shrimp some time and remove the weight and swim bait hooks for the shad tails some and jig heads so I can swim them faster in other cases. PM me if you need to borrow any for the trip as the jerk baits and such can get pricey.

if your inshore...watch for tailing & birds. watch the tides. i wouldnt use less than 15# mainline.
incoming tide can be incredibly good. sprite gold spoons can & do work in a boil as do fresh dead shrimp, popping cork with live shrimp, live croakers, cut bait, live finger mullet if available. think electric chicken for plastics. i see lots of fisherman and birds in the area marked wade in the pic below...

if you up for it u could fish BTB at High island, the slabs, or off rollover beach for shark & bull reds.

Ty Southerland is at Mariner Sails tonight at 6:30.

Seems like he knows a thing or 2 about SW fishing...
