I just recently bought a new to me ascend kayak with a lowrance elite 4 fish finder and was wondering if you use a boat ramp to put in do you pay the boat ramp fee? I asked the man I bought from and he didn't know the answer or does it just depend on the park.

I rarely use a boat ramp and launch from the bank. In the few cases I have used a ramp I have never paid a fee. I also do not use a trailer for mine and I could see being charged if you launch from a trailer.

I can't say i'm the expert but generally, from what i've seen, if you use a trailer you pay the ramp fee. If you cartop/extender with your kayak most places don't charge. I personally car top (or slide it in the back of my van) and never been charged a boat ramp fee. Several times I have been with people who use trailers for their Yaks and they have been asked to pay.

Normally when I go somewhere that does charge a fee I pay it anyways. It helps them out. And honestly, whats a few bucks?

If they charge a fee, and I use the ramp, I pay, even if I'm not using my trailer.

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm brand new to kayak fishing and only paddled some a handful of times and have a cart for mine but with the transducer and everything figured it would be easiest for a novice to just back up to a ramp and load and unload until I get a little handier at it.

If you use the ramp...pay the ramp fee.

If you launch from the bank you don't need to but like mentioned above it goes a long way towards gaining the respect of the staff at the facility if you do and helps keep nice facilities in business. A little good karma never hurts! thumb

If you are car topping and go to a place that charges a fee to launch and you are launching from any part of their property even though you are not using the ramp, you best pay the fee.
It's only right!

I always pay the fee whether I use the ramp or not. I look at it like I'm paying for the parking spot.

I buy a year pass 30$ come and go as I please.
Annual passes are good at all USACE operated day-use parks nationwide.

I always pay the fee. They're not that much and it is used to maintain the ramps.

This is my mindset as well... plus, it's nice to know you're not gonna get a ticket/towed while you're out fishing.
