I just finished installing it on my trolling motor,do you throw A bouy on first pass then pass back over with front unit? In relation to where the brush is on your screen where do you pitch your bouy? At front middle or back of boat( when using console unit) thanks for input cheers

Mark it on gps. Drive back over it INTO the wind. When you see it appear on the screen, wait til it disappears and pitch buoy right over rear of the boat. Not far, just behind the motor. The buoy will be just upwind of the pile and you'll be able to fish comfortably without running over the buoy with your trolling motor.

Once you've marked a point correctly and you know it's directly on cover drive back over it. You can adjust your screen speed accordingly at that point. Screen speed is most likely the problem.

Heck you can drive by a pylon, no wake bouy or visible timber as well to check screen speed.

I know on my Elite-5 DSI there is no adjustment. Key is to get the right speed while graphing. 3 to 3.5mph is best

Now you've got me confused. Are you using down scan or 2D because I don't get a picture until the rear of the boat passes over the object and if I waited until the pic was off the screen, I'd miss my target a long ways. I generally pitch my bouy over the motor just as soon as I see the object appear on the screen.

To whom much is given, much is required.

+1 on pitching as soon as it's seen as I drive into wind.

I just looked at my Elite 5 dsi that is the older model and it does not have screen speed adjustments. This one is on my kayak.

My HDS units on my boat have this option. I'd scan visible cover and start there to see when cover is shown and as also suggested find that speed sweet spot to get the best picture.

Sorry, I may have been unclear. Wait til you see the brush pile end, this is usually when it disappears for me because I keep my gps/sonar split and on a 5" screen, there's not much room!

Like in this pic, I would have thrown the buoy right when the pic was taken.
