I heard you can't carry fly rods on a plane anymore. They are considering them club like items. Even in the cases we all have.
Just be warned for you summer travelers.

I think there is a new TSA limit on the L x W of all carry-ons. It may just be that a 4 piece rod is too long.

Buddy was flying last weekend and saw several guys with the smaller rod cases get turned down going to Colorado. It was the TSA that stopped them at the gate. Said it was "Club Like", these were small cases...trout rods. My buddy was getting the Full Monty search by TSA(they said he tested positive for explosives, even though this guy doesn't even own a gun) when the fly guys came through....while he was in the middle of his 45 minute search he witnesses the fly guys getting upset.
IMO this is a result of the TSA trying to cover their rears after they found them to fail 63 out of 67 test last month this week the ties to terrorism with their employees.
Buddy of mine is going next week to Yellowstone, he is packing his in his luggage. I told him I hope its safe.

I flew to Key West last month, both airlines websites said check them, I asked again at the ticket counter, again same results. Puzzling though....still seeing many peeps on the secured side with fly rod tubes. Check out the new TFO bag with rollers that has storage capacity for fly rods on sides, might pay dividends in the long run for those who travel on the "fly".

There was a 2 pc Zebco rod on the flight from Denver to DFW tonight.
There were several fly rod tubes spotted in the waiting area of the Denver airport.
Sounds like the typical TSA inconsistency that we've dealing with since the organization was created...

I agree. If you have my type of luck, you know you will get the one TSA Butt.

I flew May 30, June 2, and June 7th with two fly rods attached to my carry-on. No problems. Not a single peep from TSA or any agents.
SOunds like an inconsistent application of a flawed policy.

I guess I am lucky. My 4 piece rod tubes (usually bring 1 tube with 2 rods inside) fit diagonally in my checked luggage. Try it, my luggage isn't oversized or anything.
