Looking to catch a few flatheads as I've heard they are the better tasting of all catfish! Not sure how true it is but I wouldn't mind having a few fillets for the freezer. I'm a beginner at this so the more info(Weights, baits etc) the better. Thanks in advance

Katchin krappie...doin surgeries(filleting)...and givin hott grease baths until krunchy and golden brown is what it's all about!!!

They like live bait. Perch are your best bet.

Live Bait, Live Bait, Live Bait....did I say Live Bait? ok Live Bait. now, where I come from, Live Bait, is your hand/Arm as well.. this year is strange, but they should be try to get on Nest soon, so find Rocks, Big logs in the water, etc. Good luck.

I used to catch quite a few good sized flats on huge chunks of cut shad. That was years ago in a smaller sized lake though.

Almost every flat I've caught was on cut shad, but I'm usually targeting blues. Seems they like big gizzard shad heads the most.

Find a bank on a lake or river with lots of rocks, cover, logjams, etc. use a three way rig and some good live baits, I like a 4-6" live perch, but drum, Carp, mudcat(bullheads), goldfish, shiners, and big gizzard shad are all good live bait choices. Just throw your baits out on the bottom and wait them out.

BIG live bait under a large float, fish it near a real hairy log jam at sunrise. On a flathead my favorite cuts are the belly and the head. Their belly is very thick and when removed it is the size of a large brisket. On the head behind the eyes there are soft spots. You want that. Each is the size of a Filet Mignon and about as tasty!

You know that old saying "Some people march to the beat of a different drummer."? I don't listen to a drum at all and have meandered through life instead of marching.
