mustad triple grips 2x strong and match em to the size of the stock crank hooks, or even a size bigger.

I've gone to short shank round bends mostly and I've definitely been losing fewer fish. Triple grips are great once you get a fish on, but they'll also cause you to miss some bites because of the hook point angle.

Especially true of slapping fish, and even more important on top waters!

KVDs on all cranks but 10xd,8.0, and 8xd I use round bends on those with a slightly heavier wire

As mentioned above, I have been fishing short shank round bends for a LONG time. Since 2000 or 2001. Hope this helps.
Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

I use Mustad KVD 1x Strong 2x Short Triple Grip and upsize the hook. I use KVD round bend on topwater, my next hook I want to try is the Owner Stinger ST-41.
