So glad to see a forum that leans towards jon boats. Not having the $$$ to buy a big bass boat has convinced me to pick up a old 84' and fix her up myself.
Here is the day I picked her up.

I agree Shaun. People can get pretty creative with aluminum boats. Looks like you've got a project now. Keep us updated on it.

Yea,I've been seeing people do some pretty sweet jobs customizing old jons lately. If I could afford a more expensive bass boat I would. However for now this will work fine. For those that want a big bass boat but just don't have the funds, a jon might just fill that void!

As a kid my first boat was a 12' Jon boat with a 5 horsepower Mercury, and a Shakespeare trolling motor. I've had a couple of bigger fiberglass boats since then, but I've never caught more fish then I did in that Jon boat. I'm boatless now, and wish I had about an 18' CC Aluminum boat. One day again....

I hope this Jon boat forum takes off, and gets a lot of activity.

For me, one of the best boats and certainly the most fun to fish from, was an old old Quachita crappie rig. I know, its not a tin boat, but the idea was the same...small, inexpensive, maneuverable, cheap to operate. Flat out wore it OUT!!

Installing gear track to allow future mounting options.

Shaun, what are you thinking about adding to it?

It allows a lot of options but right now on the left side I have something to keep my fish rods separated. On the other side I have a retractable tether that holds my Boga Grips. I will at some point mount a Go Pro on the trac.

Congrats on the boat. That looks like a good one. The old Ouachita jon boat I had was almost as much fun to fix up as it was to fish out of.

I wanted to have a way to mount the fish finder and a have a place to keep my phone or hydrowave. The GT175 gave it enough strength to anchor and hold both. The only thing I'm not sure about is the 1-1/2" ram ball holding my FF. I might have to go with a 2" ball.
