Does anyone still use the Briggs & Stratton outboard? I have one that has never been started or run, never had oil in it...essentially a brand new motor. No one wants to even attempt to work on it or even see if it will start. Am I just screwed? Awaiting the derision... ___________

Try a lawn mower shop. If it's never had gas or oil, you should be able to fill it up and start it. There will be diaphragms in the carb that can dry out if they've had gas in them and sat for a long time. Briggs engines are not hard or complicated.

You don't need to take it to a shop. Put oil (crank case, and check lower unit) and gas in it and give it a whirl. Those motors are air cooled so no impeller to worry about either.

Thanks...none of the lawn mower shops around here don't want to touch it, saying there are no parts available, but I hate to just toss it. I will try just putting gas and oil in it and see if it will start. I appreciate your input.

It should work. I worked on lawnmowers and chainsaws as my job in high school many years ago. If you run into problems, let me know.
