Hey all. Been a saltwater fisherman for the majority of my life. I don't own a boat or a way to transport one. I feel that saltwater fishing is much better without access to a boat than freshwater is. That being said, I'm looking to get into freshwater fishing. Mainly bank/pond/private dock fishing. Wherever I can get to with my feet. Bass Pro Shops opens up here in Round Rock tonight (which I'm super excited about) so I'm planning on going to get all new gear for freshwater. Ironically enough, the 2 reels I'm looking at are saltwater rated. I'm looking at picking up a Stradic ci4+ 2500 and a Revo Inshore. Probably mating the Stradic to a St. Croix Legend Elite (ML-F) and the Revo to a Veritas (MH-F). Both 7ft. Can anyone help me out with an essential tackle list for freshwater/bass? Lures to terminal tackle. Hook sizes, swivel types, COLORS (a couple safe options), etc. would all be appreciated. Also, if anyone knows some great fishing spots around the Austin area that are easily accessible by foot I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks all and have a nice day.

- Sully

I have 15# Power Pro braid on my Revo Inshore. Great reel. Can add a Fluoro leader if water conditions require it.
I have 10# P-Line Fluoro on my spinning set up, but nothing wrong with mono.
I use heavier line on my big plastic / jig set up.

To get the ball rolling on lures...
Yellow dot Mepps black fury spinners
Sexy or Gizzard shad Crankbaits (1.5, 2.5 for 2-5 foot depth), etc.
Sexy or Gizzard shad Lipless cranks

For Crankbaits, I like Strike King, but others are good too of course.

Live bait is always a good choice too

For soft plastics I think the most used colors and what would cover different conditions would be watermelons, green pumpkins, and black/blue.

Thanks to you both for responding. Was thinking about 15-20lb. PP on the Revo Inshore as well with 10lb. fluoro leader as needed. The Revo would be dedicated to weighted T-Rigs and weighted jigs w/ trailers. Stradic dedicated to topwater/crank/weightless type stuff with probably 10lb. PP and 6lb. fluoro as needed. Which setup would you choose for senkos?

Get you a spinnerbait and chatterbait or two in chartreuse and white. Green pumpkin and watermelon plastics are a safe bet. +1 on shad colored shallow crankbaits. You also probably want a buzz bait or frog this time of year on overcast days. I'd throw senkos on the spinning setup. I'd also kick up the fluoro leader to at least 8lb. As far as fishing spots,I'm not familiar with the Austin area but this forum has tons of information and people who will gladly help you out. All you gotta do is ask

I've been doing research the past couple weeks waiting for the water to clear up from all the rain!

Hook sizes, I typically use a 3 or a 5. I don't fish from shore but I would atleast try a carolina rig. Because it uses such a heavy weight, you'll be able to get good distance from shore when you need it. I'd also be looking at a small 2 man bass buster with a trolling motor or a kayak. Either one can be pulled by a small car or strapped on top in the case of a kayak, they are inexpensive and opens your fishing possibilities without breaking the budget. Kayaks are really popular on the lakes here.
