Need some help! I have an electrical issue with my Trolling motor. I have an 82 lb tour edition and I Keep a 74 lb that came on the boat as a back up. I changed the female and male plugs on the 82 lb after I had my issue. While fishing a tourney last weekend motor just quit working for no reason. Checked breakers and connections no problem. Ran back to truck switched motors. It worked fine for about 15 minutes then it quit too. I felt of the plug it was warm/hot to touch. I have new batteries and I just assumed it was the female plug since both motors wouldn't work. I have 12 amps coming from both batteries at the plug. I don't know what is going but I have tried everything. One of the negative cables coming from battery to plug looks rough so I cut off about 6/8 inches and it looks rough there too. Could this be my problem? Since I got the boat home and been working on it, it will run for a few seconds when first plugged in and but not stay running. HELP! This is a comparison of the two negative cables.

On the male side of the plug (it looks like a 4 wire system), there is a jumper built in. Check and make sure the screws are tight on the jumper strip. They come from the factory loose and unless they are tightened, it will cause a loose connection. Call me if I can help. John

Thanks for your help I will check that out. Any idea what caused the one negative cable to be so corroded? If I was closer to ya I would just bring it in. Im in North Central Arkansas and the closest place to me for trolling motors is 2 hours away and he is Not very fast - so im trying to do it myself. I am a coach and have all kind of clinics/camps going on the next few weeks but I am also over our high school fishing team. I am trying to get the boat ready to take to the World High School Championship on Pickwick.
