Anyone have the new Colorado or Canyon from GM. I know there rated to tow 7000lbs when equipped right. Does anyone have any first experience with these vehicles and how well they work towing your boat. Looking at downsizing from a full size truck, but I just purchased a Ranger 620FS which is under the towing cap of the new trucks.
Any information would be helpful....

If you just purchased a Ranger 620FS and will be pulling any long distances, I would stick with a full size truck. Just my worth. I have a 619VS Ranger and when full of fuel and fishing gear it's a pretty good load.

Thanks, I will be pulling down to Texas and back. Take it down in late summer and back here the follow late spring. Other that that it will stay on my lift at Cedar Creek. I know the bigger truck will pull better on the long haul.

You are going to enjoy that new 620. I pull my 619 with a 3/4 ton truck or a GMC Yukon. The Yukon is as small as I would want to pull it with. Good luck.

I think a lot of it depends on what you expect out of it. It will surely pull it. If your going to be towing long distance often I don't think it would be a great idea. If your going to tow it once or twice a year for a distance or for short trips I think it will be fine.

A lot of people have and do tow more trailer with less tow vehicle. Depending on what motor your looking at, which to get up to 7k lbs you have to be looking at the V-6 or the diesel, I think it will do fine. It probably wont have as much get up and go and its not gonna tow in OD, but what does that matter. It should get a lot better fuel mileage than its full-size counterparts.

Don't forget you have to stop that rascal too, trailer brakes or not. A lot of people don't consider that a tow vehicle also has to be a stop vehicle.

Braking shouldn't be a concern.

I agree ScottCook......braking might not be a problem under normal driving conditions, but in an emergency stop situation I want a heavier tow vehicle.

I tried panic stopping on wet roads with a 19 foot boat and a full size 1/2 ton double cab truck... it was a joke, truck just skidded along, wouldn't have mattered if it was a 1-ton dually, wouldn't have made a difference in my case. You need to have adequate following distance and pay attention no matter what your driving!

I pull a pretty heavy 20ft fish/ski similar to that ranger with a Trailblazer no problem, '03 procraft 200 combo. 70-75mph on the interstate. I wouldn't want to tow a boat this heavy without trailer brakes though.

I tow a Ranger 375V with a Tacoma. This is my second Tacoma and I towed it before at times with a Sporttrac. 375v is a heavy hull and I also have a heavy trailer. I have owned this boat 30 years so I have towed with many different vehicles. At one time I owned a F150 4x4 Screw which is about as heavy a 1/2 ton as there is. The only time I ever had a problem stopping was in that truck. I was simply driving too fast in the rain. My current Tacoma tows the boat as well or better than any of the others that I have owned. That said it is not going to tow as well as today's full size with their HP and torque numbers.

That's for all your input. Only reason going to smaller truck is for easier to get around in every day city driving. I only pull my boat on long trips is spring and fall to and from Texas back to Illinois. When the wife retires in 2017 that will end because we will be in Texas full time and only travel back to Illinois to see sons and grandkids. I have pulled my bass boats in the past with both full size and smaller trucks, just wasn't sure going to the heavier 620 boat.
