Looking to get into some big reds and trouts down near Port O' Conner towards the end of July, I like to wade fish along with hitting the jetties. Does anyone have areas they recommend for big reds and Trouts in Port O' Conner?

I am not into keeping big fish either I would rather have pictures to show off, plus if I want a mount a fiberglass mount is easy to get made.

I would rather have pictures all over my office wall than one or two mounts. Plus you get the pleasure of knowing that the fish may spawn and your child may catch one of its offspring. I am all for CPR great idea and great way to make sure that down the road we will have those big fish to catch again.

that's a good attitude but i do enjoy eating trout fillets and the occasional blackened redfish-usually medium sized specimens!

in July, you can't beat the jetties for both Big Trout and better than average redfish. Its hot and you'll be looking for structure and current.. what better place to find that than the jetties.

have fun brotha, thanks for throwing them back for the next generation, they are depending on us.

I do keep some don't get me wrong, but any trout thats over 25" is going back after a nice picture. Same thing with reds and when I go for fish I don't go for limits every day. I like to catch about a meal worth of fish and thats it. I don't see the use of limiting out on fish that will sit in my freezer.

What is the best bait to us in the jetties? I like to get that early morning top water bite. I think nothing is more fun than to see a red or trout slam a spook or a super spook.

Tides will dictate locations the next four months. Moving water in the bay slack water in the back lakes.

I agree, thats why I'm asking now so I can get back ups to back ups. When we got all that rain it sure didn't help to much I'm sure.

Let me be a bit more direct.
Nobody is going to spill their guts on the Internet. If I said go to the second reef east of the blue cabin in steamboat (there is no such place) do you have any idea how many Potlickers would be swarmed on it tomorrow?

Oh I know I'm not asking for detailed info about that. I honestly have never used live bait out saltwater fishing. I have used gulp and that is the closest I have gotten to live bait. Also I am not looking for someones honey hole, just some rough ideas that's all something to somewhat cut the guess work down. I could spend a full month trying to locate fish and have no luck, but if someone says hey the fish are in the flats or they are at the jetty hitting on this, cool thanks. Plus wouldn't you like an update from someone that came back and had good luck.

I did punch your clue ticket. If the water is moving you fish the reefs in the bay if it's not get in the back country.

Thanks Pat for that clues. Also thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far.

So live bait what's the best way to rig it up? I have used popping corks with gulp but we used a jig head with the gulp. I know some people like to use circle hooks I haven't had to much luck with them. It's hard to switch from setting a hook to just raising the tip and letting the fish set the hook for you. Is it best to soak a bait, also what type of bait shrimp or croaker? All this bait stuff is new to me, but I know if you want the big fish you should try live bait. One thing I hate is going somewhere and being uneducated about how to do things.
