Swung by Lavonia Park at Lavon Sunday and they said I could come in for the normal fee of $4 and launch my kayak from the bank. Ramp is closed though. I'm heading over there Wed. morning if nothing gets in the way. I'm gonna see what I can get into roflmao if anyone is off work they are welcome to join. Might try for sand bass or paddle to the rocks at the R.R. or the dam and try for LMB's.

Ok no problem PaPa62. The names Brandon by the way, and here is who to look for.

Was told this morning by a different gate attendent that the park was closed and I could not launch FYI......
I did park at the rest stop next to Mallard Park and cart down to the water and launch there but wasn't the plan for today. Tried for bass along the rocks of the rail road bridge but only hooked a green sunfish on a crank. Got sun burned on my legs bad even with SPF 30 on.... last time I wear shorts out on the kayak. Did see tons of baby bass swimming around several schools chased my lures...... maybe in a few more years roflmao

I did fish the submerged trees as well but didn't get anything. Water was very clear 4-6 ft visibilty in places was surprised how clear the lake was today. Water was so high I had to take my rods out of the holders to go under the railroad bridge. Last winter I went to Mallard and had to drag the kayak 20ft through the mud to get to 2ft deep water.... it was 24ft deep in that spot today according to my fish finder.

I live just around the corner from there and have gone out a few times to get used to the new kayak. Went all the way out behind the power lines and there are a few nice spots back there. Have seen many schools of small fish bit haven't caught anything yet. Water was still really murky when I went out there and when I took some minnows to fish in the trees the wind was too strong for me to even come close to staying in a general area.

I'm thinking my next trip to Lavon will be over by my side of the lake. Read some reports of some sandies schooling over at Brockdale park so I might park outside the park and cart the kayak down to the water (long ways though) and see if I can catch a few. I have carted down from there before, just have to remember when your out there paddling to save enough energy for the trip back to the car with the kayak. I might try to go the 19th or 20th depending on the weather and if anything comes up.

Really a bummer this year that after all this time hoping for rain so the parks would open up only to have them close again for too much water. Maybe this will help out the fish this year.
