i just purchased an 05 ranger z21 with a 250 Yamaha the transom saver that was on the boat when i purchased it broke and had been welded purchase a new one from cabelas a few weeks back and it is already starting to get loose at the head i have the blocks on the steering cyclinder i know a lot people just use the spacer just a lil bit unsure of this anyone else had the same problem? im open to suggestions

Get one of these and be done with it.

Is it just me or is the point of a transom saver is to take the stress off of the transom?

The m-ywedge and motor mate take the stress of your tilt and trim, but do nothing for the transom.

a transom takes much more of a pounding running down the lake
than on the highway.
if it can't handle the water/waves,etc.. then ya might have the wrong boat.

i don't use any type of transom support on my boat. it's a 98 and not a single issue
with the transom.

Yeah I understand new boats have some far superior transoms then the old boats. I think all that weight especially with the giant 4 strokes hanging off bouncing on the transom going down the road is more stress then I want.

If anyone believes that a traditional transom saver made of 1"square metal tubing reduces any stress on your transom you really should rethink it. If an older boat's transom is going to fail, it has far greater chance of failing running across the lake hitting waves that it does failing driving down the road.

The motormate works good on the yami, and it also keeps the motor straight without clips, which is an added bonus. I had one on my previous hpdi and it worked excellent. My current rig sets up high enough that I travel with the motor in the run position and works just super.

I am confident my 1" tubing transom saver helps a lot while on the highway!!!!

It was designed for waves and water not driving and towing.

I run a transom saver on my boat, and have on every boat I've had. I do believe they take pressure off the transom, and also believe that with the motor tilted up, the stresses on the transom driving down a bumpy road "could" be harder on the transom than hitting waves running across the water. Think about it, what part of any boat has the smoothest ride? Right, the seat closest to the transom. What part of a school bus has the most bouncy ride? Right, the rear seat that hangs way out behind the rear axle. With the motor down, on the water, the stress on a transom would be mostly vertical, while the stress trailer with the motor tilted up would be magnified due to the leverage of the lower unit sticking out, and it would 'try' to twist on the transom.

For all of the above reasons, I use a transom saver. I too don't think the motor mate type products will do much to protect anything but the trim cylinders/seals. The weight of the motor is still 100% on the transom, only it's tilted up, meaning more leverage to twist.

Now, is any of it truly necessary? I cannot say. Does one truly work better than another at mitigating damage to a transom? I cannot say. But I know it doesn't hurt anything to have my transom saver in place while trailering, and it takes a whopping 10 seconds or so to put it on when leaving the lake. On top of all that, my boat came with one, I bet if I ever had an issue with the transom, the first question I will be asked by the manufacturer is if I used a transom saver. Something tells me saying no would result in a voided warranty.

Where is the center of gravity when driving down the highway vs. running down the lake? Ever heard of leverage?
