Can the large text on the left of the screen be disabled or moved to the bottom so as to use less screen area? Thinking about one for the bow. I guess I should also ask the same question about the 1199. I already have that model and just curious.

Only on the side imaging screen. You can do this by disabling the SI readouts in the sonar menu

SI Readouts OFF in the Sonar main menu.
You can turn off individual readout boxes too for non-full screen SI views.
The 1199 does not have left side readouts. There are two sets of readouts.
Those are at the bottom and you can turn all the readout boxes off for regular views and the Navigation readouts.
