The way I learlearned how to jig fish was I left every other type bait I had at home and took 2 poles and nothing but jigs so I had to fish them...

That's the only way to truly learn how to fish something new in my opinion.
I know if I take other baits I'll stop what I'm trying to learn and fish something I think I'll catch them on, so I have to eliminate the threat....

Cool video Mike.

Jigs are much more versatile than most folks think. I catch a ton of fish every summer fishing a 3/4 or 1 oz jig in place of a crank bait. If you pull up to a deep spot and catch a few on a DD22 or 6XD and they stop biting, I will throw out a heavy white jig with a Zoom chunk and let it hit bottom. You want to use a heavy jig that drops like a rock. You are trying to elicit a reaction bite.

As soon as it hits bottom I rip it about 6' off the bottom hard & fast. I do this all the way back to the boat. Normally I will catch a couple more fish from the school doing this. It's a fun way to catch them because when they hit it, it is a vicious strike.

I have also had fish chase my jig to the boat as I am reeling it back as fast as I can on a 7:1 reel. This is a very good clue that maybe dragging it slowly across the bottom is not what they want that day. As I have said before, be flexible and don't get into the mindset that you have to fish a jig (or anything else) one certain way every time.
