I just started to practice to do some skipping.This technique is new for me and I would like to know what rod is the best to start with.What kind of jigheads should I use ? Is a spinning rod easier to start with ?How long should the rod be? thanks for your help

I like a 6'10 MH Falcon Cara for skipping and an Arkie style head.

exactly. I use a Falcon Cara "5" power 6'10" finesse jig rod. Keep your eye on the target, even if you have to "imagine"'the target because it's 15-20ft back under a dock. Set your spool loose, and brakes medium high. Cast low and fast. And keep your thumb on the spool. It helps to slowly lift the rod tip as the bait skips to keep the line up and off the surface. It's the constant banging of the line onto the water that causes over running the spool. If you keep it up, the bait will continue to skip and line will ease off better.

Jig style? Whatever. Not a big football jig. Just about anything without a ton of weight and a lot of wiggly [censored], like arms and legs, will skip just fine. A weightless Senko is great for docks.

I recommend this jig because the head is fairly flat and that's what you want on a skipping jig.

I like a shorter rod for skipping, I use a 6'6 rod. And I prefer to peg a t rig with the smallest tungsten weight I can get away with.
