Did anyone else see the picture posted on Concho Park Marina's facebook page of the grass carp someone shot with a bow? Is this why there is no hydrilla out there anymore? Did tpwd stock them??

I dont know if they were grass carp, but we were there last weekend and EVERYWHERE we went there were carp right up on the bank in really shallow water thrashing around like crazy in the newly flooded vegetation.

No stockings on record of grass carp in the lake. I guess if a tank upstream flooded that had them one might show up. Grass died because of lake level.

The carp in the pic is a grass carp but the carp u see spawning on the bank with the orange tails are just common carp.

wtf. I've seen 1000s of carp in that lake and never saw a grass carp. That really sucks.

wtf. I've seen 1000s of carp in that lake and never saw a grass carp. That really sucks. Not like they have a ton of grass to eat right now... all the grass beds are high and dry there are tons of common carp there I've never seen a grass carp, that's the lake record I bet lol

That's kinda my point, that lake used to have some amazing grass in it. Now it's a big bowl of rocks and sticks. And where you see one, there's always more. . .

Maybe we should should offer a bounty on these critters.

The hydrilla will never take with the constant eating of new growth by the grass carp. They are constantly searching the banks for food. On Lake Austin, they are reduced to overhanging leaves, grass clippings, and storm debris washing in.

they will balance out eventually, nature is amazing that way
Ivie is a rock bowl now not cause of carp but because the grass beds are 200 yards from the water.
if nobody has ever seen them in there isn't a large population... no stockings of them I highly doubt there will be any issues.
that said, is a moot point until the water comes up to the level of the beds
