New reel came in today - a Penn Squall 15 Reel. Ordered it to go with the Daiwa Sealine Surf Rod that came in earlier in the week. Did some practice casting using the Tennis Ball Fishing Float this evening with it.

After getting used to the reel, educating the thumb, and making adjustments to the magnetic break, switched to a Launcher Float that we like to use for distance casting especially at Denison Dam's Tailrace.

Headed to a pond and fished a Float and Jig Rig but instead of a Jig went with a Clouser Minnow. Easily cast over 100 yards if not more! Suspect the distance will increase with more practice and a heavier weight - Launcher Float used was the 1-7/8 oz model.

Was able to cast to other side of the pond and fish a large area from one place. Even better, caught a Bass during this practice session! Today's Video.

Liked Daiwa Sealine Surf Casting Rod... got another to go with an ABU Garcia 6500 C3. Not bad for $66!

That reel look great, and that tennis ball float, interesting. Honestly, I've never seen one of those before. Inspiration and necessity, cool combo!

Thanks Indianation65! Fished the local lake's tailrace this afternoon, switching out the Tennis Ball for a Luancher Float. Was able to cast well with it. Then, switched to 2oz weight and was able to make it to the edge of the white water where they were discharging! Did not catch anything but got some good practice casting in and even helped another fisherman with a Bruiser Catfish he caught! Today's Video.

Fished the local lake using the rod/reel combo; used a Launcher Float, a 2oz lead weight, and the Tennis Ball Fishing Float. Was able to get some good distance with them. And, had one White Bass take a multi-fishing fly rig that I was using. Fun stuff! Video Link.

Fished the local lake Saturday with the matched pair of rod and reels. Caught several catfish; needed to work on baiting up a circle hook as had more missed strikes than hook sets. Still a fun time...Saturday's Video.

Got to try the reel out this past weekend. Fished Galveston and had a fun time catching saltwater fish for a change of pace. Fished Galveston Fishing Pier and 61st Street Fishing Pier. No Bruisers but did get a Blacktip Shark - 27-1/4" in length! Video. Was not able to use the Daiwa Sealine Surf Rod on the pier; limited to 10' rods only. Need to try the surf next round.

Been having a great time using the Penn Squall 15 Reel and Daiwa Sealine Surf Rod! Took it out today to the local lake to get some surf casting practice in. Tied on a Sabiki Rig for White Bass and started working passing schools off a lake point. Able to get some good distance casts while getting multiple hook ups on White Bass! Today's Video

Worked a different point yesterday. Used Frito Fishing Flies instead of Crappie Jigs with the Sabiki Rig. Lots of fun catching them on the rod/reel setup.

Did have one backlash; was not paying attention. More multiple hook ups like the Crappie Jigs. Yesterday's Video

Short video this round... Late start and then a dirty lens made us opt for editing out the onesie/twosie hook ups and show mainly the three and four fish hook ups.

The Frito Fishing Fly worked well with lots of hook ups and like yesterday, lots of undersized White Bass with exception of one Keeper.Today's Video

Penn Squall 15 Reel and Daiwa Sealing Surf Casting Rod can reach out to those distant schools of White Bass breaking the surface and feeding!

Dusted off the surfcasting gear and headed to the point at Brockdale Park on Lavon. Short on time so no kayaking. Still was able to reach out to where they were from the bank using surfcasting gear. Went with Sabiki Flies and hooked up with White Bass. But, lost the rig to a snag. Will have to tie more! Switched to Crappie Jigs, Tube Jigs, and various fishing flies. Caught more on them; lost count after 20.Only four or five were keepers, the remainder were undersized. Still lots of fun surfcasting without the surf! Today's Video. Really liking the Penn Squall and Daiwa Sealine combo!

Fished several points at the local lake this evening. No hits at two of them but did get four White Bass at the last spot we tried. Three went for a Slab and one went for a Sabiki Fly. Today's Video. Penn Squall 15 keeps on working well fishing the local lake from shore!
