Any tricks to safely navigating this lake to avoid the hazard areas? Finally going to fish it for the first time soon but do not want to tear up my boat in the process. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sat the whole lake will be a hazard with bass tournament and possibly a catfish one as well.

if your graph has the timber already marked, stay clear and use the lanes that are already cut.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

thanks guys, good to know! looks like if you stay to the west and south of the channel I should be good. we will probably be camping at the state park anyways so that makes it easy. Thanks again!

Consider this: multiple days camping? Hire a guide for the 1st day then fish your boat the next etc. It will benefit you a lot. I know a very good one and friend that launches from the park.

I've been on Tawakoni as much as possible since the water came up. I cannot count how many people I've seen running on plane where they have no business doing so. Gotta be people new to the lake. IMO the lake is more dangerous now than it was when it was so low. Lots of those points that were high and dry are now just below the surface several hundred yards out, and people on plane running across them regularly. Yesterday I launched after Bass Champs had wrapped up, but the crowd was still hanging around Holiday for the after show. Passed a group of drunks about to fist fight on my way in. I could tell the crowd was taking its toll on the people at Holiday as well. Not a smile or anything resembling a welcome when I put in. No biggie to me, I was just there to go fishing.
Be careful out there people.
