We got on the water around 2pm. I had read a few fishing reports before leaving the house; so I just about knew where I would start our day. Our first stop, timber with 12 to 14 FOW. We were throwing a T/R, 4 inch curl tail worm in the red shad color. The bite was on, picked up several quality fish right off the bat. My second fish weighed in at 5.7 lbs. We moved around in the timber and picked up some more decent slot fish. But as the bite slowed down just a tad, I wanted to move to another spot in hopes of getting on an even better bite. One might say, I was searching for that honey hole. Long story short, I should have stayed right where we were, because the other places that we stopped at, only yielded a few slot fish, but nothing better than what we were previously on. I had a few other spots I wanted to try, but my trolling motor developed an issue which pretty much put us out of commission, causing us to go in early. Ticks me off a little that we were not able to finish out the day with some good oh top water action.
But this being my first fishing trip after six weeks post surgery, I was just glad get of the house, fish with a friend and between the two of us, we put twenty bass in the boat.

It felt good to get back on the water, let me tell ya. But to be honest, we really didn't get on a real good bite like I had planed for, but we had quality fish which is okay too. The parts to my trolling motor should be in soon and I can't wait to get back out there and find a 40 fish day. It's there, just gotta locate it.

According to fishing reports and a few close friends first hand reports, the shallow bite on Fayette has almost ended. The bite is in water depths from 18 to 30 feet. Not only is there some numbers to be caught, but good solid three pound fish or better. I received my trolling motor parts, reassembled it and I am now ready to go fishing again. I will be targeting the deeper fish this time. Thought I would fish a jigging spoon while Im at it. I hit the mother load last summer with this jig, it was a blast. Fishing a jigging spoon is very easy; the key to it is confidence. I will also be throwing a heavy weight while fishing a C/R, or a T/R due to water depth. This type of fishing really isnt my cup of tea, but hey, Im willing to do what ever it takes to get on quantity and quality fish during my trip. Bastrop lake is calling my name as well. Got a get over there soon. With that said, not real sure which lake I'll fish first, but I'm itching to catch a few.
