I'm thinking about putting a Helix 5 with si on my little jon boat but not really sure exactly I should mount the transducer. Suggestions?

Thanks.

I have an 18 foot Ranger and my ducer mounted halfway between engine and side, works fine. Just keep it even with bottom line of the transom.

if that trim tab thing is what you're worried about, use a piece of starboard between the transducer mount and the hull as a shim to clear the tab. just a thought if that's the problem, good luck.

I just mounted one on my pontoon boat. I had to play with it and adjust it a few times to get it right. It pretty much has to be perfect or the side imaging to work like it is supposed to. Nothing can be in the way L&R. Bubbles and turbulence will also interfere with it.

I agree with smooth move. I would probably mount it on the tab. Make a shim or custom bracket for it with vertical slots where you can adjust it up and down. It has to be even with the bottom of the boat maybe ever so slightly below even.

Once you get it mounted, if the engine is interfering you may need to tilt it up a notch when side scanning to the opposite side the transducer is mounted. But I don't think this will be a problem.

A buddy of mine just mounted one on his jon boat and rigged it up on a 2x4 somehow and just clamps it on the boat when he goes. He wanted it to be mobile where he could use it on two boats he has. Works great for him.

Just an FYI, if you break the mounting bracket like I did when I was trying to get mine adjusted, Academy has them on the shelf. BP and Cabelas don't. I bought an extra in case I ever break it again. Dang Plastic!

If it ain't yours don't mess with it!

Man you have a bunk right where the best mounting position would be, right where to trim tab starts.on the right side.

I would take some untreated wood and use any below water silicone to mount it halfway on the trim tab so you don't have to worry about that bunk. Then drill the holes into the wood. If you don't like the position pop off the wood puck and move it over.

I picked up some 1" thick pieces of starboard on ebay for a shim and slight adjustments if necessary.

So you think here would be best?

Sorry for not being up on boat terminology but would those "ridges" on the bottom effect anything?

Where you have it would be good, I don't think you would have an issue with the bunk since its so far forward.

You don't want to mount it in front of a ridge, you'll loose the signal when you start moving.
