There is LOTS of timber in Gilmer. There are three boat lanes cut from the dock across the lake to the one and only east/west (lake faces east and west) boat lane. The east/west boat lane is not marked. The western most boat lane when you leave the ramp (which by the way is one of the best ramps in Texas)you pretty much follow the road that splits the lake. The eastern ramp heads off at about a 45degree angle from the ramp east and the center boat lane cuts right across the lake from the boat ramp. At one time there was a buoy marking the center boat lane but I think that's gone.

Send me a PM with your E-mail address and I'll send you a hand drawn map (I used the TPW map and drew in the lanes) with the lanes marked.

Went there for the first time a month or so ago. I just idled around and it was fine. Lake is small enough that running isn't going to make a huge difference.
We started catching fish within 50yds of the boatramp.

There is a large stump field as you head to the dam,so that, for me, is idle. Once clear you can run to the dam and side to side. Never been above the bridge.

I've fished it a few times and have never been on plane
