I have a 2011 bass tracker and I'm wanting to take it down to the coast for some inshore/flats fishing. Am I stupid? I know I would have to flush it after every run and I have also read the saltwater will rust my trailer out quick. I would only be able to go to the coast maybe 2-3 times a year at best. What do y'all think?

As much fun as having a boat at the coast would be, don't do it. My dad had a tracker several years ago. We took it to the coast 1 time. Big mistake, even though we thought we cleaned it well. Within a year the boat started going down hill with corrosion issues.

Difference between a real saltwater boat and something else..

Real:
No carpet for a reason.
Else:
Carpet gets sand and it's a gonner in a year.
Real:
All electrical connections are soldered, sealed, and coated
Else:
Unsealed butt connectors and bare copper connectors behind the dash, bow panel and in the bilge. Gonners in a very short time.
Real:
Self bailing design prevents getting swamped. Or scooter with no sides that hold water at all.
Else:
Nope

I can't tell you how many poor saps showed up to trade in their bass rigs after "ONE" trip to the brine. Cost more to fix everything than the rigs worth. And the further south you go, the saltier the water gets. Laguna madre is 100X saltier than galveston bay.

You can spend six or seven hours prepping it up, seal up all the connections, especially the stuff in the bilge, coat the back of everything with liquid electrical tape, scotch guard the heck out of the carpet, don't forget your trailer lights, and it'll live a little while.

Saltwater boats are 10X maintenance of a freshwater rig. Ask me how I know.

I run to Corpus a handful of times a year, but live on Eagle Mountain Lake, I bought my boat based on those trips to corpus. I couldn't imagine the headache involved after running a bass boat for a weekend on Baffin ..not to mention watching the paint bubble up on the trailer
