We went cat fishing on fish trap road. we drove around a barricade and backed up to the water to fish. we were there for about a hr. and a game warden showed up. The game Warden had his chest all puffed up, his hand on his gun and asked who would like to be arrested first and have their vehicle impounded?? He was GRUMPY beyond belief. He said its a class 2 misdemeanor to drive around a barricade for any reason. He was even less happy that my truck was backed into the water to the bumpers so I could sit on the tailgate with my feet in water. Luckily he let us go after checking licenses. Lesson Learned.!!

Was his name Barney Fife?

From Genesis: "And God promised men that good and obedient wives would be found in all corners of the earth."

Then He made the earth round...and He laughed and laughed and laughed!

I'm sure they've been running around like mad lately. I can see them being short on patience.

I agree his patience is probably thin but SERIOUSLY, theres no one else to threaten than some guys just sitting there fishing. But I am surprised its a class b misdemeanor, just like a DWI or Marijuana possession ? I sure was happy he let us go.

as much as we want and love to fish, there are folks out there that are dumb, and end up in trouble, when attempting these tricks. Also, he figured, if you would break that LAW (going around a barricade) what else would you do? That is what a Barricade is for..kinda like a Rail road arm. Actually for 15 ft., you could have just walked there... IMO. the lake will be down soon, and all back to normal..

Those barricades ate there for a reason - to protect you and other idjits like you that think they are smarter than the cops that put the barricade down. Only takes 6"of water to wash a vehicle away. You were in deeper than that.

After all the high water rescues these cops have been doing because people are just plain dumb, who could blame him.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting on the water looking like a darn fool.

If backing in the water that far messed up your vehicle's rear end I would be in trouble, because pretty much every ramp on grapevine requires your tow vehicle to be submerged at that level...and that is at normal lake levels.

He is right about the Class B...the flood waters takes it from a C to a B:

Sec. 472.022. OBEYING WARNING SIGNS AND BARRICADES. (a) A person commits an offense if the person:
(1) disobeys the instructions, signals, warnings, or markings of a warning sign; or
(2) drives around a barricade.
(b) This section does not apply to:
(1) a person who is following the directions of a police officer; or
(2) a person, including an employee of the department, a political subdivision of this state, or a contractor or subcontractor, whose duties require the person to go beyond or around a barricade.
(c) Each violation of this section is a separate offense.
(d) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $1 or more than $200, except that:
(1) if the offense is committed in a construction or maintenance work zone when workers are present and any written notice to appear issued for the offense states on its face that workers were present when the offense was committed, the offense is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of not less than $2 or more than $400; or
(2) if a person commits an offense under Subsection (a) where a warning sign or barricade has been placed because water is over any portion of a road, street, or highway, the offense is a Class B misdemeanor.

It shouldn't mess anything up IF all your seals are good, but not checking for water from time to time could cost you. Much like the lower unit on your boat, if you submerge the rear end regularly, you should check for water. New oil is a lot cheaper than a new rear end.

Driving past barricades and backing in the water like that is asking for a ticket. You say he was grumpy? Sounds like he was nice enough to let y'all go, while still doing his job.
