I'm looking for good places to camp within an hour or two of DFW. Purtis keeps coming up. Have any of you guys fished Purtis Creek or camped there? Any thoughts on the fishing or the facilities? Thanks in advance.

Very nice place!!! We were there last weekend. I was fishing out of kayak and can't wait to take my bass boat next time. Campsite 23 is the best spot. I was bank fishing one morning without a bite. Then went to help wife cook breakfast and while we were eating. This guy caught a bass about 6 or 7 lbs where I was fishing.

I've stayed there a couple times. Its a real nice place and the lake is a great place to fish when they are biting. The boat ramp is on the oppisite side of the lake from the campgrounds. Its an idle only lake and lots of trees. Most people fish from kayaks there but I have fished from the banks and caught some good fish in the past. Hope this helps.

You never want a drink of water till the well runs dry

Nice place, good boat ramp, courtesy dock... rules are idle only and you will want to because of the trees. I have been there twice, caught 4 in 4 hours (2 pounders) and 2 in 4 hours the next time, after the front last week (I have to blame it on something)

I was thinking it looked shallow. How deep on average is the fishing? And how deep is it down by the dam?

Thanks for all the input guys.

I've only been once. That being said we couldn't find anything structure wise off shore. No drop offs on banks or points and all the coves and cuts were 2-4' average and stayed 4-10' deep as you went further from the bank. We didn't fish the dam as we were on one awesome frog bite! We were tired and fished all day shallow so we didn't go to the dam. The deepest we found was near the dam heading back and it was 15-20'. I'm sure there is deep water if you find the creek channel and I'm sure guys that frequent it have some key spots. They fish were shallow so I didn't mind fishing shallow. Plenty of cover for shallow fish.

There's plenty of pond dams, creek bends, drop offs, shell beds and lots of things to hold fish off the bank. You just have to look a little.
