Some idiot almost cost me my boat Sunday due to a trot line with 1 CLEAR jug marking it. It was just below surface, way to long, and had beer bottles and water bottles for float. Also had about 10 lbs of lead plus one large concrete block on one end and we could not get the other end up.
Needless to say it got wrapped up in the prop. Waves coming over the boat because the weight on the other end was to heavy to pull up. Then my bilge pump locked up.
Took on a lot of water and had a hard time getting back to Holiday.
So thanks Jack Wagon

Let me emphasize on the Jackwagon part. The trotline had a CLEAR small marker jug. With the waves on Sunday it was impossible to see it.
Tag Requirements
Trotlines in fresh water must be used with a valid gear tag. Properly marked buoys or floats qualify as valid gear tags. Gear tags must be attached within 3 feet of the first hook at each end of the trotline and are valid for 10 days after the date set out. None of these requirements were met.

Cut and run wasn't possible due to how badly it was wrapped. We tried but it wasn't happening.

I'd like to give Salsa a big Thank you for holding the ramp for us. bow_down

After this incident I'm going to have a hard time leaving illegal lines alone.

Yes, they are swimming free.

I'm all for it if people want to fish with a trotline. I've fished that way many years ago and I always fished legal.
That said, if someone is too lazy to fish a trotline legally then they should be cut.
Do it the right way, or don't do it at all, and you deserve to have your lines cut.

Just one more cast!

Don't just cut them and leave them on the lake bed or up in the trees. Depending on the type of hook on it, it could potentially wreak havoc on fish and fishermen for years to come.

Don't worry. We pulled the whole thing out minus the weight on the far end. I wouldn't dare cut and leave it. That would be a cruel way for a fish on the line to die.

I wasn't thinking you had done that of course. Just speaking in general terms to anybody who hasn't dealt with this before.
