Bought some minnows of the Memorial Day weekend "Brownwood" . The guy at the bait shop said I need a signed receipt for minnows now. That if I got check by the GW I would need a receipt. What's up with this.

New rule from TPWD.

Anglers are allowed to transport and use commercially purchased live bait in water provided they have a receipt that identifies the source of the bait. Any live bait purchased from a location on or adjacent to a public water body that is transported in water from that water body could only be used as bait on that same water body.

Read the whole press release here

The whole rule smacks of panic by TPWD. "I do not know what to do, but we have to do something."

worthless regulation. Basically revenue generation. Fisherman need to oppose stupid laws like this and get their reps to rescind it.

What about the release of all this water in the Texas lakes , would this have a higher probability of spreading zebra muscle over transporting a bucket of minnows??

I have seen a chart of the officers of the TPW.
Clearly too many chiefs and not enough indians.
This is a recipie for red tape and stupid decisions

I guess if I jug or seine some shiners out of a creek somewhere then those minners are illegal?

What? The regulations haven't stopped the spread of Zebra Mussels? I'm shocked and dismayed!

As am I. We just need more laws on the books to get this under control..

I believe all artificial baits should have the first half of the lures body painted bright pink. That way they can't be confused with actual live bait. bolt

I wonder if the people who make the laws, rules and regulations ever have to apologize publicly for making stupid decisions that cost the citizens huge amounts of money, time and just plain old inconvenience.

Hmmm....I have an idea for a new law.
